It’s the time of year when things hurry, but a friend sent me a card by artist Anne Taylor of Janet Frame looking like a spinsterish madonna cradling a bird. You can see the image here
It slowed me down and inspired a poem
what do you nourish against your heart?
what pure spirit
waits to be kindled into being
a star to show its coming
angels sing of its becoming
wise folk to bring you gifts, support and love
well, you will
welcome all that is within you
—the dark, the strange, the light—
and make a home, a manger,
for every brilliant bit of you
that longs to shine without.
